JACKSON -The state College Board plans to evaluate four university presidents and the university system's chief executive officer.

Clyda Rent, president of Mississippi University for Women, will undergo the first evaluation when the College Board meets Thursday, said Tom Layzell, state higher education commissioner.

Layzell and University of Southern Mississippi President Horace Fleming will be evaluated next month. University of Mississippi Chancellor Robert Khayat and Jackson State University President Ronald Mason will be evaluated at later meetings.

Layzell said that most trustees have expressed support for Rent's work at MUW, despite a push by faculty members to remove her.

The College Board urged Rent and the faculty to work out their differences last year when trustees voted to extend Rent's contract for another four years.

Layzell said he wasn't sure if the board's evaluation of Rent on Thursday will include a status report on the Rent-faculty feud.

"When we have these sessions, we go into a whole lot of different issues. It's hard to speculate on what's going to come up," Layzell said. "These are pretty broad-ranging discussions we get into."
