The two volunteer boards are responding to rumors
that the College Board has been receiving complaints about Fleming. Fleming, who
was unavailable Friday, will have his performance review with the College Board
July 19. His four-year contract expired at the end of June and is due to be
renewed.
"There have been rumors floating around for
some time that (Fleming's review) may be a hard time for him and his contract
might not get renewed," said Kirkpatrick.
Kirkpatrick said the boards "are meeting to
bring the executive groups together to show support and affirmation for our
president."
Fleming's review had been scheduled for the board's
June meeting, but it was postponed because of the controversy surrounding the
review of Mississippi University for Women President Clyda Rent, who ended up
resigning.
It was reported Friday in the Jackson Clarion-Ledger
that Fleming's critics had been lobbying the College Board to refuse to renew
his contract.
The two board members from the Coast, Virginia
Shanteau Newton and Roy Klumb, said they had not received any faxes about
Fleming. They also said they'd heard no more complaints about Fleming than any
of the state's seven other public university presidents.
Fleming is known for taking public stands on issues
since succeeding President Aubrey Lucas in 1996.
He has gone head-to-head with the Legislature over
budget cuts, has argued to the College Board that USM should get a larger
percentage of state funding, and has pushed to expand USM's Gulf Park campus to
a four-year university.
People inside and outside the university say
Fleming's advocacy of the Gulf Park expansion has earned him a lot of enemies
who might be trying to end his tenure as a way to stop the expansion.
"I think the Coast issue is probably a factor,
but to what degree, I don't know," Kirkpatrick said.
No one else seems to know, either. USM faculty and
administrators can roll off a list of the possible conspiracies against Fleming
they've heard in the last 48 hours:
Academics are angry because they think their budgets
were cut unfairly.
- Those involved with USM athletics are angry
because they think athletic programs were cut unfairly.
- Many think too much money has been spent on
technology.
- North Mississippi universities feel threatened by
the possibility of a southern academic powerhouse.
- Fleming might have angered the Legislature by
asking for more money.
- Fleming might have angered the College Board by
asking for more money.
"There may be a group of people who are
unhappy with him as president, but not one of them has the same
reason," said one USM administrator, who asked that his name not be
used.
Despite days of countless, sourceless rumors, no
person or group has stood up to argue that USM needs a new president.
Students will join the alumni and development
people in support of Fleming.
USM student body president Angela Patterson said
she and the outgoing president would issue a statement of support sometime
next week.
"He's very student-friendly and really
supportive and accessible to the students," Patterson said.

Mr. McCaleb,
I have a few questions for you. First, who are you? Second, What has
Dr. Fleming done to you, for you to request that his contract not be renewed?
I received your first email and I could not make heads or tails of it.
Basically, it made no sense. So if you would please clarify the point that
you are trying to make.
Thank you,
Chris Moore

My first question is did you read
the web pages I placed in the email.
Second, USM has given refuge to a SCAM organization which is located on USM
land, located in Pass Christian, Mississippi.
Since Dr. Fleming is the President of USM, it's also his responsibility to
ensure the reputation of the university is above reproach.
I was contracted by WRANPS, which is supported by the Secretary of State, Eric
Clark, Department of Marine Resource's, Mississippi Sales Tax Commission, State
Auditor, Phil Bryant, eleceted officials and state agency employee's.
I am owen over $10 thousand dollars, but have never recieved one penny.
If you did not get why I am wanting Horace Fleming to be replaced you may need
to re-read my web pages: www.mississippiwebsite.com

Mr. McCaleb,
I did visit your web page and it made about as much sense as your email, which
was none. You were contracted by WRANPS to do what? I am sorry that
you have not been paid, maybe it is because you did not do the work and you sat
on your butt and played on the computer all day.
To me from what I have seen at your web site and what I have read in your emails
you are a couple sandwiches short of a picnic.
Oh, and another thing you are not even a graduate of the University, so why
should I do anything for you. What have you done for Southern Miss that
would allow you to ask us not to renew Dr. Flemings contract?

Mr. McCaleb,
I did visit your web page and it made about as much sense as your email, which
was none. You were contracted by WRANPS to do what? I am sorry that
you have not been paid, maybe it is because you did not do the work and you sat
on your butt and played on the computer all day.
I
can see you are a big fan of USM and Horace Fleming, and I commend you for that.
I tell you what Chris, how about you paying me $7,790.00 out of your personal
account. That is how much money I have in the SCAM organization on USM property
where WRANPS resides.
The $7,790.00 is only the labor & materials I paid for, this does not
include the tools which were stolen, and profit.
To me from what I have seen at your web site and what I have read in your emails
you are a couple sandwiches short of a picnic.
You
may be right about being, "a couple sandwiches short of a picnic."
But this is what happens when you get cheated and scammed by an organization as
corrupt as WRANPS and with USM approval.
Oh, and another thing you are not even a graduate of the University, so why
should I do anything for you. What have you done for Southern Miss that
would allow you to ask us not to renew Dr. Flemings contract?
Your
right, I am not a graduate USM. I graduated from Jeff Davis Community College.
But that was after I spent 20 years and 9 months in the Naval Seabees, and then
I went back to school.
But I fail to see the connection between being a graduate of USM and being owed
for work completed at WRANPS.
Look at you, you are a graduate of USM and you can't even understand plain
English. I can imagine the money you spent getting your degree at USM, and it
seem to have not been a benefit too you; I am sorry, but this is Mississippi.
This state is usually 50th out of 50 states in education, which mean Mississippi
is the lowest educated state in the United States.
Also I am not asking you too do anything for me, but when you state, "What
have you done for Southern Miss that would allow you to ask us not to renew Dr. Fleming's
contract?
I did work for USM by way of WRANPS, I am out $7,790.00 which I have not
received one penny of my money.
This is the reason I am requesting President, Horace Fleming not be renewed on
his contract.

Mr. McCaleb,
WRANPS may be a big scam, but it is not USM's fault that you were not paid.
The land you say is owned by USM is actually owned by the state, because
the state owns all public universities. If they want to commander land
that is not in use, they have the right to do so without the President's
approval. But now that I think of it you cannot commander something
that belongs to yourself.
You are right about WRANPS being a
SCAM, and it as much USM's fault as it is WRANPS that I have not been paid.
You need to read my web page: www.mississippiwebsite.com/wranps_inc_history.htm
This web page should explain just how WRANPS and USM scammed me.
Even the State does not have the right to build buildings without first
obtaining a building permit not wire a build without getting an electrical
permit.
I would also like to say, I do understand plain English and I understand correct
English and both emails that you sent had incorrect grammar. I am sorry
that I am not hip on the new redneck slang.
When I ran spellchecker over you last email there were several discrepancies. I
assume, that you are from the North, and it will take you sometime to understand
Mississippi's redneck slang.
Lastly, thank you for posting my email on your web site, this is the first time
that I have had anything published. It is just too bad that no one visits
your fascist web page. I wish you well in your movement, but what will you
do when President Fleming's contract is renewed. Lets say it is not renewed what
then? Will you then call for the head of the new President that has nothing to
do with your situation. I have an idea maybe you can apply for the job as
President of Southern Miss. You can start your own Hitler regime.
You are more than welcome that I am
posting your email on the World Wide Web, as this one will posted also.
I believe you are being a little harsh when you say my web page is
"fascist."
The word FASCIST means: Fascism, Totalitarianism, Despotism
, Dictatorship, Repression, Oppression.
My web site is none of the meaning concerning fascist, but it is the truth.
If you believe my web page come under the heading of, "Hitler regime,"
that makes you Mr. Hitler.
Well it has been fun corresponding with you over the past couple of days but I
will have to end this wonderful relationship. You see I have received a
job with this wonderful company that is associated with the state, maybe you
have heard of it, WRANPS.
I agree, it has been fun receiving
email from you, I feel like I know you like a brother.
I am happy for you getting a job from a nonprofit, nonpaying, SCAM organization.
I wish you well, and every time look at that privacy fence I built and paid for
along with the building I finished which you will be working in and paid for.
I have $7,790 of my money in WRANPS, and have for the past 10 years. I am sure
with your money you will be happy to pay me.
Well you have a good day and stay away from sharp objects, you may hurt
yourself.
Now, Now, lets not get deadly, I know from being there, it is very easy to come
in from the back in order to watch what is going on.
