I have in my back yard an easement; in the
easement is an abandoned sewer line and possible an abandoned water line.
I purchased my home in July of 1976 and only
within the last several months has there been a problem with the abandoned sewer
line.
It seems as though the city, after all these
years, decided to cap of both ends of the abandoned sewer line.
When they did, the sewer line filled up with water
and now water stands in the easement 24/7.
I have requested the abandoned sewer line be
removed in order to stop the constant standing water be stopped.
But, of course, Long Beach will not respond to my
request, its all ways, "we don't have the money," to remove the sewer
line.
I would like to feel sorry for the city, but after
turning down $650,000 in saving to taxpayers, with a vote of 5-2, I can't feel
sorry at all.
Easements are to be maintained by the city, but
this easement has not been maintained for several years.
Pine trees need to be removed because of their
height and age; originally the purpose of the easement was to allow fire trucks
to drive through in case of a fire.
Fire hydrants were placed in the backyards for the
purpose of having fire trucks, in case of a fire, could drive down the easement.
I would like the city of Long Beach, since
taxpayers dollars are acquired for this purpose, keep the easement cleaned.
We have maintained the easement for many years,
but just passed my land it needs cleaning up.
For anyone interested, please come by and look at
the easement, and you decide if the City of Long Beach should do its job and
maintain this easement. (103 ALVERADO DRIVE - OFF COMMISSION RD.)
