Director

VA Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System welcomes new director!

Thomas J. Wisnieski takes over as director of the Department of Veterans Affairs Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System.

Mr. Wisnieski previously held the position of acting director at the VA Medical Center in Columbia, S.C.

Wisnieski assumed direction of the VAGCVHCS from Ms. Kathleen Fogarty, who served as interim director since January.  Fogarty will return to Fayetteville, Ark., as the director of Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks.

“I look forward to serving our nation’s veterans here on the Gulf Coast,” Wisnieski said. “The VA Gulf Coast has experienced incredible growth within its clinics, and I’m excited about the system’s future.”

Since his VA career started in 1982, Wisnieski has held various positions of increasing responsibility in VA health care, including leadership positions in New York, Louisiana and South Carolina.

Wisnieski’s education background includes:

• 1997: Master Degree in Public Administration with Health Care Emphasis from State University of New York at Brockport, N.Y.
• 1993: Continuous Quality Improvement/Facilitator Certifications from Rochester Institute of Technology
• 1974: Bachelors Degree in Sociology from Millersville State College, Millersville, Pa.

The mission of the VAGCVHCS is to serve the needs of America's veterans by providing primary care, specialized care, and related medical and social support services.  The VAGCVHCS staff conducts this mission from medical facilities along the Gulf Coast in Biloxi, Miss., Mobile, Ala., Pensacola, Fla., Eglin AFB, Fla. and Panama City, Fla.
