OCEAN SPRINGS - Maybe you're not as fast as a cheetah or a greyhound, but that doesn't mean you can't cover some ground for the benefit of your furry friends.
The Gulf Coast Running Club and ChevronTexaco are sponsoring the 11th annual Valentine's Day Run for WRANPS on Saturday, Feb. 1, at Gulf Islands National Seashore Park in Ocean Springs.
Proceeds from the run will benefit the Gulf Coast's Wildlife Rehabilitation & Preservation Society. Last year, the Pass Christian-based group cared for a record 1,934 injured or abandoned birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians.
The fund-raiser will begin at 8 a.m. at the park's visitor center, with the 5K run at 9 a.m., and a 1-mile walk at 9:45 a.m. Registration fees received by Jan. 27 are $8 for GCRC members, $10 for nonmembers, and $5 for children age 12 and under. The fee is $12 for all ages on race day.
Runners will receive a Run for WRANPS T-shirt provided by ChevronTexaco and its Pascagoula Refinery.
Registration forms may be obtained on the GCRC Web site at www.gulfcoastrunningclub .org.
For more information, call GCRC at 875-6855 or ChevronTexaco Public Affairs in Pascagoula at 938-4855.
